EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule: The Lead-Safe Work Practices Federal Law Requires
The EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule (40 CFR Part 745) requires anyone doing renovation work that disturbs paint on homes or child-occupied facilities built before 1978 to be certified in lead-safe work practices, follow specific containment and cleanup procedures, and provide specific disclosures to owners. Non-compliance can result in substantial EPA fines per violation and personal liability for supervisors. Every GC and handyman working on pre-1978 residential structures is potentially subject to the rule.
