Termination for Convenience vs. Termination for Cause: The Different Exits From a Construction Contract
A construction contract can end in more than one way. Termination for convenience lets the owner walk away without a specific breach — but owes the contractor specific compensation. Termination for cause requires proving the contractor breached — but gives the owner broader remedies. Using the wrong termination path is itself a breach, and the financial consequences are very different depending on which is invoked.
